T. Melescanu attends Conference for security policies in Munich

Foreign Affairs Minister, Teodor Melescanu on Sunday participated in Munich in the Euro-Atlantic Security Leadership Group reunion, wherein he stressed the necessity to finding solutions to relaunch the nuclear disarmament process and its seeing with measures of slashing the armed forces and classic armament, underlining the importance of such measures in the Black Sea area, the relevant ministry MAE informs.

Within talks on the European defence, the Foreign Affairs Minister, Teodor Melescanu emphasised the importance of teh joint approaches of EU strengthening, based on its fundamental values and principles, as well as the need of a coherent, cohesive and joint approach, grounded on a long-term vision of the Member States. He reiterated Romania's support for the deepening of the Union's role in security and defence, in complementarity with NATO. The Romanian official recalled the importance of strengthening the Union's stance as global viable and influential actor, and stressed upon the importance of the inclusivity principle in the evolutions linked to the European defence, so that developments be beneficial to both the EU, in its entirety, and all the Member States. At the same time, minister Teodor Melescanu presented our country's contribution to ensuring the Euro-Atlantic and international security, in the context evoking the significance of the transatlantic relationship, as a fundament of a strong and relevant North-Atlantic Alliance at global level," the press release reads.

During the conference, the Romanian diplomacy's head has had bilateral meetings with his Georgian and Azeri counterparts, with the Secretary General of the League of Arab States, with his Iranian counterpart, Mohammad Javad Zarif, and the Turkish one, Mevlut Cavusoglu, a talk with Fatouda Bensouda, the Chief Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court, with Abdullatif bin Rashid Al-Zayani, secretary general of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), and with Madeleine Albright, former US secretary of state, as well as with other top officials present at the reunion.

Likewise, the Foreign Affairs Minister, Teodor Melescanu has met with the NATO Secretary General, Jens Stoltenberg who congratulated and thanked the Romanian Government upon the 2 percent allocation of the GDP to the Defence budget.
